Note:  We can supply a nearly unlimited number of plants, but cannot always promise that all will be sent in bloom.  Because when plants bloom is largely up to "Mother Nature", we will not promise more than 50 plants in bloom per order.  Should you want more plants sent in bloom, we will try our best to send them in bloom but will make no such promise.

What to order:

Small, or miniature plants are the easiest to provide, since these can be sent as mature plants, usually in bloom.  They make great table favors or gifts for guests, since they are easy to decorate (should you want to), don't take up much table space, and are easy for guests to take home with them.  Further, they are easiest to package and ship to you, so they generally arrive in excellent condition.

Should you want to order larger plants, i.e. standard-size violets, please keep in mind the following.  We don't ship plants in pots larger than 2 1/2".  This means that mature, full-grown plants cannot be sent to you.  Mature plants are too large to package and ship without damage (broken leaves), especially if they were to be shipped in larger pots.  Should you want mature, standard-size, violets for your function, we would suggest having us ship you smaller plants in bud (about to bloom), then growing them out to maturity yourself--of course this requires time, space, and effort on your part!

What about plants other than violets?  We grow many plants other than violets (browse through our site).  Many of them will bloom, though not all can be sent in bloom.  Episcias and Streptocarpus are good choices should you want plants in bloom, though both may require some growing on your part, since neither can be safely sent as mature plants.  Miniature houseplants for containers are a good choice if you don't require that they be in bloom.  Most of the plants we offer are unusual and hard-to-find and are novel and decorative even without flowers.

If you can visit our shop, size and maturity of plant isn't an issue, since packaging for shipping isn't necessary.  You can select from a large variety of plants, in bloom, of all sizes, and we can box them for safe transportation.

When to order:

As far in advance of your event as possible!  For two reasons.  First, the number of mature plants that we have, on hand, that are actually in bloom, is finite.  Once all of these plants in bloom have been sold, we can take no more orders for plants in bloom.  Of course, more are coming into bloom all of the time, but this does you little good if they bloom the week after your event!  Providing young,  yet-to-bloom plants, is never a problem.  Second, we fill orders on a "first-come, first-served" basis.  Those orders placed earliest will be filled first, with the best plants we have available at that moment.

Note.  Orders for blooming plants is heaviest during the months of April, May, September, and October.  Should you want blooming plants sent to you during these months, it is especially important that you order far in advance!

Special requests:

We can't always fill orders for specific varieties and/or colors.  It takes about 10 months, from leaf cutting, for a violet to mature and come into full bloom (a bit shorter for minis, longer for standard violets).  This means that we would need at least this much lead-time to grow plants to fill such special requests.  Even then, there is always the chance of a "crop failure" or other unforeseen event that prevent plants from maturing and blooming on time.

What's a "sport"?  Orders are easiest to fill if we are allowed to include "sports".  These are plants that, though still very pretty, are not blooming as they are described in our catalog/web-site.  For example, a plant that should be pink with blue spots that blooms solid blue or solid pink.  For the collector, we can't sell these.  As a gift, or favor, they are just as pretty as any other plant.  Most sports will bloom in a shade of blue (a lesser number as pink or white), which means that they would be a good choice if blue is your color choice.

What to do with them once you receive them:

Unwrapping the plants.  It's important that you unwrap the plants as soon as you receive them.  They've just traveled a long way, with their pot collared and their leaves wrapped.  Lightly water them, if needed, put them in a bright place (no hot or direct sun), and give them some space for their leaves to lay-down.  In about 24 hours, they'll begin to return to normal and look as they should.  Because  not all people have the space, ability, or desire, to care for a lot of plants, we always suggest receiving the plants no more than a week before the event date (so you don't have to care for them very long).

Decorating the plants.  If you want display the plants in a decorative container, we suggest that you don't repot the plants.  Instead, it's far easier (and less likely to damage the plant) if the plant and pot can simply be inserted into the container you wish to use.  For example, miniature violets are sent in 2" white, plastic pots (actually 3 oz. "Solo" brand bathroom cups).  The name of each plant is written on the pot.  If you want them in clay (terra-cotta) pots, simply slide the 2" plastic pot into a clay pot of a slightly larger size!  There's no need to repot.  Should you want to decorate the pots with foil or other wrapping material, we'd suggest using an empty pot to make a "mold" with the foil or wrap.  Then place the potted plant into the molded foil or wrap.  Of course, adding ribbons or name cards can also be done, should you be this ambitious and creative.
