Miniature Gesneriads
Home Up Aeschynanthus Alsobias Chirita Codonanthe Columnea Episcia Kohleria Nematanthus Petrocosmea Miniature Gesneriads

Over the years, we've collected many, many, different gesneriads.  Because finding space for all of them is always a concern, we always have a preference for the smaller leaved, smaller growers among them

All of the plants listed below are small-leaved plants, all will bloom, and all are suitable for the indoor home garden, either under artificial lights or in windows.  By "small" or "miniature" we mean plants that are easily grown as small plants in small pots--as small as 2 or 3" in most cases.  Many are even suitable for use in container gardens, like dish gardens or terrariums.

Their appearance, and how large you choose to grow them is entirely up to you.  They will look equally attractive as either small plant in a small container or as large display plant (it will remain small leaved).  For example, the Columnea 'Broget Stavenger' shown at left, though a large plant, has only fingernail-sized leaves.  Olive has grown this both as a hanging basket in the glasshouse and used it in her small dish gardens.
